Overview

Ready for an adventure that’s got a little bit of everything? The Sundarbans Bagerhat Best Wildlife and History Tour is six days of “wow, I can’t believe this is real.” You kick things off with an overnight train from Dhaka to Khulna—yeah, it’s old-school, but there’s something about watching the world slide by from a train window that just hits different.

Next up, you ditch the tracks for a riverboat and drift straight into the Sundarbans. This place is wild, literally. We’re talking tangled mangroves, secret beaches, and if you’re lucky (or unlucky?), maybe a glimpse of a Royal Bengal Tiger. You’ll hit all the hidden gems: Herbaria, Katka, Kachikhali, Karamjal—each spot’s got its vibe, whether you’re into birdwatching, exploring watch towers, or just standing around gawking at nature being extra.

Once you’ve had your fill of jungle and adrenaline, it’s history time in Bagerhat. The city’s like an open-air museum. Shait Gumbad Mosque, Khan Jahan Ali’s tomb, and a bunch of other mind-blowing old mosques. If you’re into architecture or just want to soak up some centuries-old Islamic history, you’re in the right place.

Honestly, this trip is a goldmine for wildlife nerds, culture junkies, and anyone who loves snapping epic pics for the ‘gram. They keep things comfy and safe, so you don’t have to stress about the small stuff. And hey, if you want to brag about being eco-friendly, you can do that too. Long story short: if you want to see Bangladesh at its most raw and real, this Sundarbans Bagerhat Best Wildlife and History Tour has your name on it.

Tour Plan

Day 1 – Pickup in Dhaka & Overnight Train Journey to Khulna

Your unforgettable journey begins in Dhaka, where our team will pick you up from your hotel or the airport between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. After a warm welcome and short briefing about the tour, you’ll be transferred to Dhaka Railway Station for your overnight train to Khulna, departing at 7:00 PM. Settle into your seat and get ready for a scenic ride through the heart of rural Bangladesh. As the train leaves behind the urban sprawl, it enters a picturesque landscape of green fields, quaint villages, and slow-moving rivers. This overnight journey is not just a transfer—it’s an introduction to the soul of Bangladesh. Spend the evening relaxing, chatting with fellow travelers, or gazing out at the peaceful countryside before drifting off to sleep.

Day 2 – Arrival in Khulna & Boat Journey into the Sundarbans

You’ll arrive in Khulna around 5:30 AM, where your local guide and driver will greet you with a warm smile. A short transfer will take you to the Khulna Launch Ghat by 6:30 AM, where your dedicated riverboat awaits to begin your Sundarbans Forest tour. As the boat departs, you'll glide into a world unlike any other—the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy breakfast on board as you sail past lush mangrove trees and winding river channels. Along the way, you'll spot exotic birds such as kingfishers and egrets, and perhaps even crocodiles basking along the muddy banks. By late morning, you’ll stop at the Dhangmari Forest Office to secure your Sundarbans Forest entry permits and meet the armed forest guard who will accompany your tour for safety in this protected tiger reserve. Your first major stop is the Herbaria Mangrove Trail, a short but rich forest walk that introduces you to the complex ecosystem of the Sundarbans. You may see monkeys swinging through the trees, monitor lizards hiding in the undergrowth, and an incredible variety of birdlife. As the day comes to an end, enjoy a sunset cruise to Kachikhali, soaking in the golden hues reflecting on the water. Dinner is served on board, and your night will be spent anchored in the calm of the forest, under a sky filled with stars and surrounded by the tranquil sounds of nature.

Day 3 – Jungle Safari in Katka and Kachikhali

Rise early to the soft sound of birdsong and enjoy a hot breakfast while the boat cruises deeper into the forest towards Katka, one of the most wildlife-rich areas of the Sundarbans. Your day begins with a visit to Katka Sea Beach, a serene and remote spot where you can walk barefoot on golden sands or take a refreshing dip in the Bay of Bengal. Next, climb the Katka Watch Tower, which provides sweeping panoramic views over the vast expanse of forest and water. From here, you may spot spotted deer, wild boars, monkeys, and, if fortune favors, even the Royal Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat. After soaking up the view, embark on a guided jungle trek through the dense forest trails of Katka. Your expert guide will share insights about the Sundarbans’ fragile ecosystem, pointing out animal tracks, medicinal plants, and hidden wildlife. Later in the day, the boat heads toward the Karamjal Wildlife Centre, where you’ll learn about the Sundarbans' crocodile breeding program and see enclosures for deer, monkeys, and various rescued animals. The center also provides a clear look into ongoing conservation efforts. As the sun sets, enjoy dinner on the boat and reflect on the day’s adventures while anchored near Dhangmari, embraced by the quiet wilderness.

Day 4 – Morning at Karamjal & Return to Khulna

Begin your morning with a more in-depth visit to the Karamjal Wildlife Centre. Wander through walkways and platforms that let you observe spotted deer, monkeys, and native birds up close, all while learning about eco-tourism and sustainable forest management practices in the region. After lunch on board, your boat begins the relaxing return cruise to Khulna. Enjoy your final chance to spot wildlife along the way, or just relax and watch the passing scenery—lush mangroves, winding rivers, and fishing villages. Once you arrive in Khulna by late afternoon, you’ll check into a comfortable hotel. The evening is free for you to unwind, explore the city’s colorful local markets, or enjoy a delicious dinner featuring local Khulna cuisine, known for its rich flavors and seafood.

Day 5 – Full-Day Bagerhat Historical Tour

After breakfast, take a short scenic drive to the nearby city of Bagerhat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a treasure trove of Islamic history and architecture. Your first stop is the awe-inspiring Shait Gumbad Mosque (Sixty Dome Mosque), built in the 15th century by Saint and general Khan Jahan Ali. The mosque’s unique architectural design—with its 77 low domes and massive stone columns—creates a serene, almost mystical ambiance. Continue to the Tomb of Khan Jahan Ali, set beside a large pond known as Thakur Dighi. This peaceful site invites reflection and provides stunning photo opportunities. You’ll also explore several other historic mosques that showcase the distinctive Sultanate-era architecture: • Nine-Domed Mosque • Ronvijoypur Mosque • Zinda Pir Mosque • Bibi Begni Mosque Each site reveals intricate brickwork, domes, and minarets that speak to the area's religious and cultural significance. In the afternoon, visit the Bagerhat Museum, where ancient artifacts, old manuscripts, and models of historical sites help bring the city’s rich past to life. After a full day of cultural immersion, enjoy dinner and prepare for your overnight return journey to Dhaka.

Day 6 – Arrival in Dhaka & Tour Conclusion

Arrive back in Dhaka early in the morning. Whether you're headed to the airport or returning to your hotel, we’ll provide a smooth and comfortable drop-off. With your tour now complete, take home more than just souvenirs—carry with you lasting memories of boat rides through the silent mangroves, encounters with rare wildlife, ancient architectural marvels, and a deeper appreciation for Bangladesh’s natural and cultural heritage.

A trip of a lifetime.

Staying entrenched in the Mangroves with easy access from our boat to the channels and islands of the Subdarbans. We had many excursions on our flat bottom canoe -all of them brilliant.

Sundarbans Tour, great trip

Great experience to go through the larges mangrove forest by boat and stay overnight on the vessel on the rivers. Even though accommodation and facilities are very basic on board I really liked the trip. Mam Holidays was very helpful to arrange a day-time journey back to Dhaka. My guide, Mizan gave me a lot of valuable information during our stay in the Sundarbans.

5 day Sundarbans Tour

This was a magnificent tour, all that we wsihed for and more, although the tigers did not come to see us. From the moment we were met on the steamer in Dhaka to the end of the tour we were looked after in a friendly, professional way. The driver was good and managed traffic well. In Khulna we wandered round local shops with no hassle, feeling very safe. The smaller boat that took us round Sundarbans was great, a lovely atmosphere created by the captain who was excited when he showed us dolphins and a crocodile. The guides were knowledgable and knew where to find birds, deer and a tiger paw print. The boat staff kept the boat well, very clean, lovely food and staff were always aware of our needs. I would recommend this tour and Bangladesh as a fascinating, safe country to visit.
