Wat Si Saket - Laos’ Oldest Temple

Start your journey at Wat Si Saket, the oldest surviving temple in Vientiane. This stunning Buddhist temple, dating back to the early 19th century, features a unique architectural style influenced by both Thai and Lao designs. Wat Si Saket is renowned for its thousands of Buddha statues, carefully arranged along the temple’s inner walls, each holding a deep spiritual significance. As you explore this sacred site, you’ll experience the peaceful atmosphere that permeates the air, perfect for reflection. This Vientiane Temple Tour offers insight into Laos' Buddhist traditions and provides a glimpse into the country’s rich religious heritage. The Wat Si Saket Vientiane temple is also renowned for its stunning courtyard and serene garden, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in Vientiane's historical sites and Buddhist temples.

COPE Visitor Centre - Understanding UXO

Next, visit the COPE Visitor Centre to gain a deeper understanding of Laos' challenging history with unexploded ordnance (UXO). Laos is one of the most heavily bombed countries in the world, and the COPE Visitor Centre offers a powerful look into the ongoing efforts to clear these dangerous remnants of war. Through interactive exhibits, survivor stories, and educational displays, visitors can learn about the devastating impact of UXOs on the local population. This stop is a part of the Vientiane Cultural Heritage Tour and an essential educational experience on Laos’ journey toward recovery. The COPE Centre is not just a museum; it’s a poignant reminder of the importance of peace and reconciliation in post-conflict societies, making it a key part of any Vientiane historical tour.

Ho Pra Keo (Haw Phra Kaew) - Royal Heritage

Ho Pra Keo, also known as Haw Phra Kaew, is a beautiful museum located in the heart of Vientiane. Once a royal temple, it now serves as a repository of ancient religious artifacts, showcasing Laos' rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The temple originally housed the revered Emerald Buddha, which is now enshrined in Thailand. The building’s architecture is an exquisite example of traditional Lao design, with intricate carvings, graceful arches, and an impressive central hall. As you explore the temple, you’ll learn about its pivotal role in Lao history and Buddhism. This visit is a must for anyone interested in Vientiane’s cultural heritage and the religious sites that have shaped the city’s identity. A visit to Ho Pra Keo Vientiane is an essential stop for anyone seeking to understand the intersection of Laos’ royal history and Buddhist culture.

Pha That Luang - The Golden Stupa

One of Vientiane's most iconic landmarks, Pha That Luang is a majestic golden stupa that holds deep religious and cultural significance. Revered as the holiest site in Laos, Pha That Luang is considered the symbol of Lao sovereignty and Buddhism. The stupa is an architectural masterpiece, covered in gold leaf and rising 45 meters above the surrounding grounds. Visitors can walk around the grand courtyard, take in the peaceful ambiance, and admire the beauty of the intricate carvings and religious symbols. As you explore the area, your guide will share the fascinating history behind this monument, which dates back to the 16th century. As part of your Vientiane Historical Tour, Pha That Luang in Vientiane is a cultural treasure, offering a unique opportunity to connect with Laos' spiritual past.

Lunch Break

Take a break for lunch and indulge in traditional Lao cuisine. Enjoy local dishes like Larb, Papaya Salad, and Sticky Rice, along with refreshing beverages. This is the perfect time to relax, recharge, and discuss what you’ve learned so far with your guide.

Patuxai Monument - Vientiane’s Triumph Arch

After visiting Pha That Luang, your tour will take you to Patuxai, the Triumph Arch of Vientiane. Resembling the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Patuxai Monument was built to honor the Laotian soldiers who fought for independence. The monument stands at a height of 40 meters, and from the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of Vientiane and its surrounding landscapes. The structure’s design incorporates elements of traditional Lao architecture, such as intricate carvings and sacred motifs. Whether you’re interested in Vientiane’s monuments or simply want a breathtaking view of the city, Patuxai Monument Vientiane is a must-see. This stop is one of the highlights of the Vientiane Landmarks Tour and offers a great photo opportunity.

Vat That Khao - Quiet Reflection

For those seeking a more peaceful and tranquil experience, Vat That Khao offers a serene retreat from the bustle of the city. This historical temple, located on a hill with beautiful views of Vientiane, is an excellent spot for reflection and meditation. The temple is home to a large stupa, which is an important religious symbol for the Lao people. Vat That Khao Vientiane is less crowded than some of the other popular sites, making it a great place for a quiet moment of contemplation. Its serene atmosphere makes it a great spot for photography, as the surrounding nature and views add to the beauty of the temple. This site is part of the Vientiane Buddhist Temples and provides visitors with a unique experience of Lao spirituality.

Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan) - A World of Statues

The final stop on your private tour is Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), located just outside Vientiane. This surreal park is filled with over 200 statues, including giant depictions of Buddha, Hindu deities, and mythical creatures. The park was created by a local artist in the 1950s and combines Buddhist and Hindu imagery in a way that’s both fascinating and otherworldly. Among the towering statues, you’ll find a giant reclining Buddha, an eerie stone “hell” scene, and a massive concrete tower with panoramic views of the park. Buddha Park Vientiane is one of the most unique Vientiane tourist spots, offering an unforgettable glimpse into the creativity and spiritual diversity of Laos. Whether you're an art lover, a spiritual seeker, or just someone looking for something off the beaten path, Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan) is a must-visit destination.

Comprehensive 1 day tour

Our guide Chansay was brilliant, very knowledgeable, with excellent English. We only had one day in Vientiane and this tour ensured we got to see all the major sites in one day. Lunch was also delicious.

Great private tour! Worth the cost. Enjoyed the excursions.

Not much to see in Vientiane and this tour covers most of it. Buddha park was nice although very run down for only being ~75 years old. Lunch was wonderful and being included helped lower the overall experience cost..

Vientiane’s marvels

This private tour was well organized. The guide Chansay was competent and welcoming. The tour was flexible and could be adapted to the participant. Everything was worth seeing. The chauffeur was reliable and the bus comfortable. A walk on Friendship bridge #1 was interesting and appreciated, but could not cross to Thailand my visa being single entry only. This activity a must when visiting Vientiane!.

Great tour to start off your first time adventure to Laos

Really enjoyed this tour with our guide Mr. Chansay Nanthavong. Originally thought the full day would be too much but it was perfect. Also had lower expectations for the Buddha Park based on some reviews but I found it to be most interesting and I'm glad it was included. This tour really does hit the highlights of Vientiane and it is a good introduction to Laos and its culture since it was our second day in the country. Lunch was also delicious and you could try anything and everything you wanted. Mr. Chansay has good English and a wealth of knowledge about the history as well as the current culture. The price may seem high but it was actually a good value..
